Indications

Dosage and Administration

Adult Cattle, Horses: 20-40 g/Animal/Day for 5-7 days.

Calf, Goat, Sheep: 10 - 20 g/Animal/Day for 5-7 days.

Cattle Feed: 2-4 kg/ Ton of Feed.

Composition

Each 100 g water soluble powder contains  Azithromycin USP 10 g equivalent to Azithromycin Dihydrate USP 10.50 g.

 Pharmacology

Azithromycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic with bacteriostat activities against wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is a macrolide antibiotic. It has also been shown to be extremely active against Mycoplasma species. Azithromycin prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis. It binds to the 50s subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting translation of mRNA. Nucleic acid synthesis is not affected.

 Indications

It is indicated for local & systemic infections of Poultry due to gram-positive & gram-negative Bacteria, Mycoplasma etc. It is indicated for the prevention & treatment of Mycoplasmosis, Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), Complex Chronic Respiratory Disease (CCRD), Infectious Coryza, Colibacillosis, Fowl cholera, Infectious synovitis, Salmonellosis, Necrotic enteritis.

 Dosage and Administration

Poultry: For Prevention: 1 g per 2-4 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days.

               For Treatment: 1 g per 1-2 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days.

In Feed: 50 g Powder mixed with 100 Kg Feed for 5-7 days.

Side Effects

Azithromycin is well tolerated with a low incidence of side effects. The side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort (pain/cramps), diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and skin rashes and are reversible upon discontinuation of therapy.

Drug Interaction

Antacids: In patients receiving Azithromycin and antacid, Azithromycin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacid. Terfenadine: As with other macrolides, Azithromycin should be administered with caution in combination with terfenadine. There have been no pharmacokinetic drug interactions between Azithromycin and warfarin, theophylline, carbamazepine, methylprednisolone and cimetidine.

Contraindication

Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic. Co-administration of ergot derivative and Azithromycin is contraindicated. Azithromycin is contraindicated in patients with hepatic diseases.

Storage

Store below 30º C in a cool and dry place. Protect from Sun light. Do not refrigerate.

Withdrawal period

Poultry (Meat & Egg): 8 days.
